Steel Pipe Guardrail Circle Columns

Highway guardrail posts are usually made of steel. The following is the general production process:

1.1 Rolling: For round tube posts, roll the cut plates or strips into round tubes on equipment such as plate rolling machines, and weld the interfaces together to ensure the roundness and welding quality of the round tubes.

1.2 Cold bending (for special-shaped posts): If it is a special-shaped post (such as a special-shaped cross-section), the cold bending process is used to gradually bend the steel into the designed shape through cold bending equipment.

2.1 Cutting: Cut according to the length required by the customer.

2.2 Punching: According to the design requirements, use punching equipment to punch holes at the corresponding positions of the posts for installing connectors, bolts, etc.

3.1 Pickling: Immerse the welded posts in an acid solution (such as hydrochloric acid, etc.) to remove impurities such as rust and scale on the surface, and rinse with water after pickling to remove residual acid.

3.2 Hot-dip galvanizing: Immerse the pickled columns in molten zinc liquid at about 440-470℃ to form a zinc-iron alloy layer and a pure zinc layer on the surface of the columns, which can prevent corrosion and rust. The galvanizing time and temperature should be controlled to ensure the thickness and uniformity of the galvanized layer.

3.3 Passivation (optional): After galvanizing, passivation treatment is performed to form a protective film on the surface of the zinc layer, improve the ability to resist atmospheric corrosion, and prolong the time for the appearance of white rust.

4.1 Appearance inspection: Check whether the galvanized layer on the surface of the column is uniform, whether there are defects such as missing plating and zinc nodules, whether the surface is smooth and flat, and whether there are welding defects such as cracks and pores.

4.2 Dimension measurement: Measure the diameter, wall thickness, length, aperture and other dimensions of the column to see if they meet the requirements of the design drawings.

4.3 Mechanical property test (sampling): Conduct mechanical property tests such as tensile and bending on some columns to detect whether their strength and toughness meet the standards.
